Amolock® – First Eco, First Design Eco & Grand – Installation instructions

How to install the PVC tiles from the Amolock First Eco, First Design Eco and Amolock Grand collections.

Just a few steps to a new flooring experience

You only need a few tools to lay the Amolock PVC tiles. Only the subfloor requires a little preparation. If the Amolock tiles are to be laid in an area that exceeds the load limits specified in the technical data, additional bonding is advisable. This also applies to areas exposed to high temperature fluctuations or direct sunlight through floor-to-ceiling glazing.

Laying Amolock First Eco, First Design Eco & Grand: these points must be observed!

For the installation of PVC tiles from the Amolock First Eco, First Design Eco and Grand collections, you will need a rubber mallet with a head that matches the colour of the decor, a cord punch and chalk. Please note that the vinyl tiles need time to acclimatise before installation. To do this, spread the tiles around the room to be laid 48 hours before installation, either individually or in piles of no more than ten tiles. A temperature of between 18 and 26°C should prevail at this time and 24 hours after installation.

A constant temperature between 18 and 26°C should also be ensured during installation. The temperature of the subfloor should not fall below +15°C. When installing, allow for an expansion joint of at least ten millimetres to all solid surrounding objects. For installation below +15°C, the expansion joint should be larger. If the Amolock tiles are laid during other construction work, you should take appropriate protective measures.

Step 1: Substrate preparation

An important part of the installation of Amolock tiles is good substrate preparation. The subfloor must comply with national and European standards. The substrate must be level, smooth, dry and firm . Dust, grease residues, dirt and other impurities should be removed. Any cracks, holes and unevenness should be repaired and levelled out before laying . Basically, Amolock First Eco, First Design Eco and Grand PVC tiles can be laid on any firm and level floor.

Step 2: Planning

To benefit from an ideal result, you should draw longitudinal and transverse lines on the subfloor in a T-shape at right angles to the walls using a string and chalk before laying. This creates a grid that makes it easier to lay the tiles exactly. It should be noted that the edge tiles should not be smaller than ten centimetres . Tiles on doors, pillars and other fixed objects should not be smaller than half a tile.

For the tiles in the First Design Eco collection, the lines are drawn in an L-shape . Here, start laying at the edge, leaving at least 10 mm distance to the wall and also leaving space for the edge pieces with a minimum size of 10 cm. The edge of the tile with the hidden serrations should be against the wall. Lay the tiles and then tap them into place with a rubber mallet. Use a white or black hammer head, depending on the colour of the tiles. Start at the corners of the tile and work your way inwards.

Step 3: Laying

The PVC tiles from the First Eco and Grand collections are laid in a pyramid shape . Start laying whole tiles at the door or driveway and work your way into the room from here. Ensure that the tiles are aligned orthogonally , that there is an expansion joint of 10 mm and that there is space for the edge pieces of at least 10 cm.

Lay the tiles and then tap them into place with a rubber mallet. Use a white or black hammer head, depending on the colour of the tiles. Start at the corners of the tile and work your way inwards.

Step 4: Laying the border tiles

The border tiles, which should not be smaller than 10 cm, are laid at the end. At doors and pillars and other fixed objects, the tiles should not be smaller than half a tile. Here, too, observe the minimum distance of 10 mm from all surrounding fixed points such as walls and pillars.

The Amolock PVC tiles are easy to cut to size with a knife or saw . When laying, leave a gap of 10 mm between the tile and the wall, radiator, shelf or other obstacles. This can then be filled with a flexible putty or optionally provided with a skirting board.

For exact and precise cutting of the Amolock PVC tiles, a cutting machine or guillotine shears are recommended. For complicated interfaces, the creation of templates is recommended.

Step 5: Attaching skirting boards

In our range you will find the right skirting boards for every tile. The skirting boards are easy to install with our baseboard. The baseboard is either screwed or glued to the wall. The adhesive tape on the back of the baseboard simplifies installation. The skirting board then only needs to be pushed in.

The installation height is the most important thing to consider here. The baseboard must be installed 42 mm above the tiles. In the First Eco collection, this height corresponds to exactly six tiles stacked on top of each other. Before gluing the plastic strips, they should be cleaned and brought to the correct length . When screwing the skirtings directly to the wall, 9 cm are measured from the floor. Here, too, it is important to observe the correct connection of the interlocking system.

Important notes for a flawless floor experience

Under certain conditions, it may be necessary to glue down the PVC tiles. This applies in particular to areas that are exposed to increased temperatures or strong temperature fluctuations or that exceed the load limits specified in the data sheets. Consult the installation instructions in the download area of the service header for correct installation.
